WELCOME
Dear viewer, welcome to my web site.
On the 'CERAMICS TODAY' page you will find a selection of the work I am producing and selling at present. This work is made in moulds into which I press the clay after rolling it out into slabs. The large bowls and dishes especially give me a nice big area onto which I can apply my hand painted designs, this is a process that is instinctive with each design being spontaeneous and individual. As a background and a contrast to the boldness of the design , I first apply a variety of coloured slips to the clay , these remain matt when fired adding texture to the finished piece.
In the 'VASES' category of the 'CERAMICS TODAY' page you'll find a whole range of vessels that I created for the Britsh Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate IN 2006.This work has quite an industrial feel to it, I've attempted to transfer the boldness of my bowl designs into three dimensions and the resulting work when displayed together looks to me like a city of futuristic buildings which is great as I am a huge fan of Modern architecture.I've used semi spherical moulds in four sizes to create the work and have just altered the arrangement with each vessel, this is a very satisfying way of working as the variations can be quite limitless , I intend to carry on exploring this theme and adding to the scale of each individual piece.
In the 'MISCELANEOUS' category of the 'CERAMICS TODAY' page, there are some photographs of a 6ft x 6ft Ceramic wall piece completed with the staff and patients of 'The Nottinghamshire Hospice', the inspiration for this was 'The garden of Eden' and is on permanent display in the courtyard of the hospice. From this I went on to create some ceramic wall panels obviously on a much smaller scale, but I very much enjoy this process.
The other pages are self explanatory and give more background to my working practice. I've included a back catalogue of my early ceramics because I think it's quite interesting to compare and contrast past and present. I hope you enjoy browsing the next few pages, give them a chance to download as it can be a bit slow, but worth it I hope!
